Equipment auction | How to rent trailers to Amazon

Dust off those trailers sitting in your lot. Relay’s equipment marketplace holds live auctions where Relay carriers can rent their semi-trailers to Amazon and turn idle equipment into cash. Here’s how to place bids and compete for equipment rental contracts.

What is Relay’s equipment marketplace?

While Relay’s contract auctions help secure work for your company’s drivers, our equipment marketplace is focused on your empty assets. Amazon makes it straightforward to rent your underused equipment, so you can turn your overhead expenses into an opportunity.

How can semi-trailer leasing grow my business?

Truck and trailer payments are the second highest vehicle-based expense for carriers, behind fuel. Relay’s equipment marketplace picks up the slack. If you’re not booking work, or you’ve only been hauling power-only loads with another company’s trailers, you can lease your equipment to Amazon. Our massive amount of freight will get trailers moving, cutting the cost of owning and maintaining them.

Amazon’s equipment marketplace requirements

To bid in an auction for semi-trailer rental contracts, you must have:

  1. An active account on Amazon Relay
  2. Sufficient 53’ trailers to participate during contract dates
  3. CARB compliant or SmartWay designated trailers
  4. Valid DOT inspection throughout the semi-trailer lease contract

To lease semi-trailers to Amazon, a fleet owner’s equipment must meet following requirements:

  • Air or spring type suspension

Every semi-trailer rental auction will also have its own requirements.

  • Auction cut-off time: The time remaining for your company to place, edit, or withdraw its bid

How to place bids on trailer rental contracts

When you find a semi-trailer rental contract that fits your business, bidding is as simple as entering your rate per trailer per week. You’ll always know where you stand compared to the bids placed by other carriers. Full pricing transparency allows you to make a more competitive bid or withdraw–you decide how much your trailer is worth.

What happens if I win?

If you win a contract, Amazon reaches out to you for trailer documentation and payment details. We pick the equipment up and drop the equipment off. You get the equipment ready, then we install GPS and decals, perform pre-inspections, and off we go. Your excess equipment gathers revenue instead of dust.
